About an Evening with Angus Gill, John Kruslja & Chris Mathews

Wauchope Arts Hall on Thursday October 18, from 7pm

What happens when you get 3 award winning songwriters in Australia, who also happen to be some of the most engaging performers in the land, combining forces onstage at the same time?

Wauchope’s Angus Gill, Nundle’s John Kruslja and Kununurra’s Chris Matthews are bringing their considerable strengths and talents together for a week of shows throughout NSW, in what is guaranteed to be a night of stories, songs and impeccable musicianship that you won’t forget in a hurry.

Presenting the evening in the classic “Songwriters in The Round” style, where each artist goes song for song, these larrikins and great mates can easily hold their own individually, but together – Look Out!!

The Wauchope community has followed Angus’ career with much pride. Don’t miss the show or you may well kick yourself.

At 20 years of age, the authenticity of Angus Gill’s distinctive vocals and sharp observations that bind his songs, are quite possibly evidence that he may have been on this planet before. As somewhat of a veteran in the song writing and performance stakes, the Wauchope-based entertainer’s infectious, yet thought-provoking songs, warm stage presence and trademark brand of humour is delighting audiences and festival goers, while an array of respected musical identities are also singing his praises. Among them is

Guy Sebastian, who recently tweeted, “Forget Duncan, wanna have a beer with Angus.” Gill’s debut album Nomad, has rapidly begun to cement him in the hearts and minds of Australian music fans, peaking at #13 and spending several weeks on the ARIA Country Albums Charts.

Golden Guitar Winner, John Krsulja from Nundle in NSW, is no stranger to the art of engaging an audience with his warm, rustic tone and honest, simple storytelling. His debut album, “Travellin’” produced by the late Karl Broadie, was a finalist for Album of The Year, at the inaugural 2016 Australian Roots Music Awards

With his uniquely Australian performance, a dazzling guitar technique and the ability to weave story in song like not many can, Kununurra based Chris Matthews is a tour-de-force on stage, honed from years of touring and performing all over the country. He’s played and toured with just about anyone you care to mention, graced nearly every festival stage in the country, and is one of the most entertaining and confident performers you’ll come across. With a deep baritone richness to his vocals, and 4 albums out and a 5th on the way, Matthews spends nearly 10 months of the year, every year, touring to every state and territory, by-way, highway, back roads

and bitumen streets of the country each year – averaging somewhere between 200-250 shows along the way. He’s also a ridiculously versatile multi-instrumentalist (6 and 12 String guitars, Mandolin, Banjo and Lap Steel), looks a like a cross between Monkey Magic and Wolverine, and has enough energy to match either of them, on or off stage.

There’s a common thread amongst these 3 quite different artists – Their love of land, people and country is delivered in a way that that celebrates the diversity of what it means to be Australian and leaves no doubt as to their origins and what matters most. On their own, each is worth the price of admission alone, but together they bring a dazzling array of songs, stories, laughs, world class musicianship, tears, wry observations and humour that is almost second to none. Highly entertaining, thought provoking, and pretty much certain to make you leave with a smile on your face long after the last song has finished, Gill, Kruslja and Matthews is one show you will kick yourself for if you miss it.
