Talented screen industry practitioners from Southern NSW, the Riverina, Central Western NSW, the mid North Coast and the Northern Rivers are a step closer to achieving their career ambitions after being selected for Screenworks 2019 Career Pathway Programs that specifically target emerging screenwriters and directors in regional NSW. Screenworks’ Career Pathways Program is supported by Create NSW.
Create NSW Executive Director Create Investment & Engagement Elizabeth W. Scott said, “We are delighted that seven talented regional filmmakers are one step closer to achieving their career goals with this unique program designed to support regional stories. Working with industry-leading teams will provide these early-career screenwriters and directors with a rare opportunity to develop skills and networks that they will find invaluable.”
Screenworks’ Director Pathways Program, delivered in partnership with the Australian Directors Guild, assists two regional screen directors by providing $3,500 in funds as well as introductions and support to find a directing attachment and mentoring to progress their careers.
The selected participants for 2019 are Alison Plasto from Albury in Southern NSW and Clare Sladden from Broken Head in the Northern Rivers.

Screenworks’ Inside the Writers Room will place five regional screenwriters in the writers rooms of some of Australia’s most successful drama production companies. The selected participants for 2019 and the companies they will be placed with are:
Fleur Ferris from Moama in the Riverina will go to Matchbox Pictures (Nowhere Boys, Safe Harbour)
Kimberley Lipschus from Ewingsdale in the Northern Rivers will go to Werner Film Productions (Riot, Dance Academy)
Thomas Baldwin from Nambucca Heads on the mid North Coast will go to Fremantle (Wentworth, Picnic at Hanging Rock)
Raen Fraser from Parkes in the central West will go to Goalpost Pictures (Upgrade, Fighting Season)
Tracey Richardson from Myocum in the Northern Rivers will go to Every Cloud Productions (Deadlock, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries)

All the participants are selected by an external assessment team of screen industry professionals and representatives from Create NSW.
Screenworks Career Pathway Programs, made possible with the support of the NSW state government through Create NSW is delivered annually to advance the career opportunities of regional screen practitioners in NSW.
