The Written Word Cultural Trail

The written word can be a powerful tool of art and creativity. The most obvious repository of such works is the extensive network of libraries throughout the region.  They reflect who we area. Until recently the library at Port Macquarie had a sign that reminded borrowers to “remove the sand before returning their books”. Today however libraries stage a range of artistic events from book readings and launches, to workshops, presentations and a wealth of information about local history. Combined with  some quirky bookshops that still exist on the coast and regular events staged by writers and poetry groups (Check the calendar)  Avid fans of the written word  have plenty of opportunities to sit on a beach or under tree of the Mid North Coast to with read or write a book.

Whether it is book readings, creative writing sessions or one day community and library book sales you will find more details on our calendar of events. However there is also one of the Mid North Coast’s showcase events, the Bellingen Writers Festival, held every Queens Birthday long weekend.
