The Rime of the Ancient Mariner

February 6 - March 31
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is an exhibition of paintings by Sawtell artist Geoff Mould, inspired by Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s epic poem.
Geoff was engrossed by Coleridge’s poem when he first heard it in his Year 9 English class. Decades later he has created a collection of art in tribute to that poem. The collection tells the tale of the ancient mariner and his crew’s journey through stormy waters and their meeting with the famed albatross.
Sections of the poem are printed alongside each painting so people can follow the story and, as Geoff hopes, “come to the conclusion Coleridge was a humanist and a most fascinating man.”
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner exhibition will co-incide with World Poetry Day on 21 March. Head to the Museum for a poetic conversation with celebrated poet John Bennett and artist Geoff Mould, and an open mic session. Calling all bards to bring your favourite sea themed poems!
