The Grassroots Writers Weekend offers hands on, practical, inspiring writing workshops for writers of all skill levels and experience – from never having put ‘pen to paper’ to experienced writers. Our aim is to give all participants the opportunity to develop and hone their writing skills, to experience and share with others the thrills (and torments) of writing, to encourage collaboration and build networks between writers and writers’ groups across the region.
In April 2018, the Grassroots Writers Weekend will be in its fifth year and return to Dorrigo. Inaugurated by the Dorrigo Writers Group in 2014, this event has since travelled and been hosted by writers’ groups in Coffs Harbour, Nambucca Heads and Port Macquarie. Over the past four years the participants have come together from as far north as FNC, as far south as Newcastle and as far west as Tamworth.
We now invite writers, interested in sharing their passion and skills in hands-on, grass roots sessions of two-hour length, or to facilitate a conversation group of one-hour length and send us your workshop ideas. We invite all interested writers to come to enjoy an autumn weekend on the Dorrigo Plateau. We have extended this invitation to Southern Cross University writing staff and students.
As the Grassroots Writers Weekend is all about developing grassroots skills, our focus differs from that of a writers’ festival. We will not focus on published writers or publishing work. We will not hold book launches or offer books for sale. Please note: as this weekend is about sharing skills, presenters are not remunerated.
All participants are charged $25 to attend the whole weekend including morning and afternoon teas. The dinners on Friday and Saturday evenings are additional approximately $30 p.p.
