Bec comes from generations of gifted artists and craftspeople and has been learning the art of making high quality craft ever since she can remember. Studying and being mentored in Community Cultural Development has enabled her to facilitate workshops and to teach as a community artist. Bec is passionate about nature and conservation and also worked as an environmentalist for years. She draws a great deal of inspiration from the natural world. Using the finest hand-dyed silks and wools, she first hand-felts the basic shape of a hat and then uses traditional millinery techniques and tools to mold it into it’s final shape. Next, the hat is invisibly hand-stitched, then the decorations designed. Depending on the hat, it can take up to 20 hours to complete just one piece.
Most days, Bec can be found in her picturesque studio or garden, whipping up hats and other fibre arts, jewellery, felt and flowers among other crafty treasures in the beautiful, creative town of Bellingen NSW. She is happy to open her studio/showroom by appointment. Enquiries for bespoke creations, teaching and community arts projects are welcome, she is able to work with a wide range of materials across a range of different styles.
