PIX FROM THE STIX 2017 – Gloucester Galleries annual photography competition.
WE’VE MADE SOME CHANGES FOR 2017 - Colour is back.

We are expanding our horizons this year! It’s a radical change but we’re allowing the subject matter to be from further afield. Photographs in all but one of our categories can be taken from anywhere in the world, as long as they have been taken within the last two years and not have been exhibited in any other exhibition or venue prior to this competition. That’s not to say that the best pictures aren’t still, right here in our own backyard. To this end we’re introducing a new category, ‘Gloucester Postcards’. This category will allow you to enter a photo that highlights some aspect of our shire and culture. It could be any image that captures a moment, place, object, animal, people that depict the beauty and interest that exists in our beautiful part of the world.

In an effort to minimise printed brochures, entry forms will either be available on-line, or from Gloucester Health Foods. You can visit the following links to retrieve your entry form.  https://www.facebook.com/PixFromTheStix/ or http://www.gloucester-gallery.com.au/ or http://www.visitgloucester.com.au/

Entry forms are due by the 9th June by 5pm (taken with your entry fee to Gloucester Health Foods, or posted to Pix from the Stix competition, Gloucester Gallery, 25 Denison St, Gloucester to arrive on or before 9th June) and your framed works completely ready for hanging, need to be delivered to Gloucester Gallery by the 20th June, between 10am and 4pm.

There are a few changes to our categories this year. They are as follows;

Faces I have met!
This portraiture category allows you to capture the essence of some of the interesting and diverse characters that you may have met locally or somewhere on your travels.

Lie of the land
This is a very open category that allows you to explore the differing landscape features of places anywhere from our own backyards to the many fascinating landscapes elsewhere.

The Natural Environment
For a more in-depth photography experience of nature, capture the flora and fauna in a truly individual and explicit manner.

Man-Made
Focus on obscure or everyday objects and use your photographic skills to capture the essence of the myriad of man-made objects that surround our lives wherever we may find ourselves.

Not Your Normal Photo
A time to really test your artistic flare. Experiment with a more abstract or conceptual approach to your photography, pushing the limits of what is achievable through digital technology.

Absence of Colour
Black and white photography (or even partial colour absence) has a unique way of highlighting and capturing the essence of a subject. Use your imagination to create stunning photographs highlighted by the distinct lack of colour.

Gloucester Postcards (NEW CATEGORY!)
This is an all new category where the subject matter must be local. Photos are limited to a standard 6” x 4” format. Winners of this category will have their photos published for sale at the Visitor Information Centre. This is a great opportunity to capture the best of what Gloucester has to offer. Selected works will be published by the VIC.

Junior section:
This category is open to all people under 18 years of age. There is no specific category genre so feel free to experiment in any of the above listed categories. The photograph however must still adhere to the rules and conditions that apply regarding subject, timing, framing and exhibition in the senior section.

The opening night and winners announcements for the exhibition will be held on Friday 23rd June at 7pm and is open to all. Please come along, bring your family and friends, and show your support for the wonderful talent of our local photographers. Check out the winning entries while enjoying some light refreshments.
