ON OFFER FOR REGIONAL NSW WRITERS.  Deadline for application is 5 pm, Wednesday 8 November 2017.

For aspiring screenwriters, having the chance to sit in the writers room of one of Australia’s leading production companies can be a career-changing opportunity.

Now in its fourth year, that is exactly the opportunity on offer as part of Screenworks’ Inside the Writers Room program which will provide the chance for four regional NSW, early career screenwriters to observe the process of writing a television drama in some Australia’s most significant drama production companies. Applications close on November 8th.  This initiative has been made possible with support from Create NSW.

This year’s participating production companies for Inside the Writers Room include Matchbox Pictures (Family Law, Glitch) Every Cloud Productions (Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, Newton’s  Law), Goalpost Pictures (Cleverman, Holding the Man) and Playmaker Media (Love Child, The Code)

“Through Screenworks’ Inside the Writers Room, participants have the unique opportunity to make contact with some of Australia’s top screenwriters and drama production companies,” explained Screenworks General Manager Ken Crouch.

“A number of our previous participants have maintained contact and have ongoing involvement with the production companies they met through Inside the Writers Room”.

Since starting the program in 2014, Screenworks has already supported 13 participants who have had opportunities to contribute ideas for plotting, character and story development, helped with note taking, submitted sample scripts as well as received professional feedback on their own scripts.

“It was an unexpected bonus to be able to contribute to story and character ideas,” said Grafton based screenwriter Sammy Lovejoy. “I learnt so much about process and collaboration.”

“I found it very useful to witness the beginning of a television series” explained Mullumbimby author and screenwriter Laura Bloom.

Screenworks’ Inside the Writers Room is most relevant to emerging or early-career writers of television content, and more specifically TV drama or comedy series, or authors of fiction transitioning to screenwriting.   For this first time, this opportunity has been extended to residents across regional NSW.

Apply online via Screenworks website, applicants are required to provide a sample of their work as well as a support letter with their submission.  Deadline for application is 5 pm, Wednesday 8 November 2017.
