Creatives across the Mid North Coast are invited to take part in Writing for Wellbeing, a collaborative community arts project led by local artist Alice Mai.

Supported by Port Macquarie–Hastings Council through a Community Grant, this eight-workshop initiative brings together writing, reflection and connection with the natural world. Alice Mai, known for her gentle, human-centred approach to storytelling and wellbeing, is facilitating four public workshops at Port Macquarie Library, alongside a dedicated four-part series for artists at Roto House.

Two community sessions, Beginning with Light and Writing the Shadow, have already been delivered, creating space for gratitude, honesty and compassionate reflection. The remaining workshops continue this natural arc of growth, with writings from all sessions being collected for the project’s next stage.

Artists from across disciplines, including visual arts, textiles, ceramics, photography, installation, music, performance and interdisciplinary practice, are now invited to participate. Each creative will receive one anonymously shared piece of writing and be invited to create an original artwork in response. The resulting works will be presented alongside selected writings in a public exhibition planned for July 2026.

The artist-focused workshop series at Roto House (with approximate dates from late April to early June 2026) offers creatives a reflective, generative space to nurture their own wellbeing and practice through writing.

This is an opportunity to connect words with image, inner reflection with community expression, and individual creativity with collective care.

Expressions of interest are warmly welcomed from artists across the Mid North Coast. Please get in touch with Alice directly at: aliceyunchan@gmail.com
