The Hoey Moey in Coffs Harbour was absolutely packed for Outset’s ‘Coastal Grown’ youth music event on Gumbaynggirr Country.
The free, all-ages gig was created to address the lack of opportunities for young people to experience live music in the region, while also recognising the abundance of youth music talent and interest in our community. The result was a night of outstanding performances from local trailblazers Korderoy, Lily Hallawell, Autopilot, Rhetorical? and Temperate.
The event was the culmination of a month-long mentorship program where 10 young people formed a Youth Committee and worked alongside five inspirational industry professionals: Ben Lewis (Gig Big), Daniel Whiffen (Hoey Moey), Lisa Willows (RAWR Music Management), Lola Willows (The Cage) and Nanette Backhouse (saso.creative).
Under their guidance, the Youth Committee gained real-world experience in staging and promoting a live gig, while also building valuable connections and skills for future careers in music.
Delivered by MusicNSW in partnership with Arts Mid North Coast, the program was supported through artist fees and a professional live video and photo shoot as part of our Mini Digital Concert series. These videos will be released later this year.
Looking ahead, MusicNSW will also support three more all-ages events at the Hoey Moey in 2026.
