The Creative Waterfall Way

Waterfall Way is one of the major scenic routes of New South Wales. It is also the location of numerous creative and arts activities and three of our designated Creative Communities.

So why not explore the Creative Waterfall Way as well as its many waterfalls and scenic gems.

Sawtell's Bustling Arts Scene

In recent years, Sawtell has awakened from its seaside slumber to find that it’s been put on the style map. Chic cafes and a bustling arts and live music scene have taken root but roots connected to its history and sense of being different.

Hand Made Craft in Boambee

Ten minutes on the Highway south turn off at Boambee to visit Wood We Create, a gallery that highlights the natural beauty and versatility of wood – enhancing the many colours, textures and uses of timber.

Recyled Art at Raleigh

Once off the Highway and officially on the Waterfall Way, turn off at Raleigh and visit the Bowerhouse Community Reuse Centre with its focus on recycled art. The entrance is graced by a magnificent Bower Bird sculpture by artist Nick Warfield.

Creative Community of Bellingen

You won't miss arriving in Bellingen with the first major creative stop at the Old Butter Factory and Nexus Gallery.

Bellingen is buzzing with markets, cafés, galleries, heritage places, festivals and events. Spend a day or even more in Bellingen before heading up the hill to capture those wonderful waterfalls and scenic spaces.

A few minutes out of Bello you will find Denwar Harps, a unique place to stop and shop.

Creative Community of Dorrigo

Now begins the climb to about 1,000 metres above sea level, to arrive at the small, friendly and increasingly creative country town of Dorrigo, our third Creative Community.

Today Dorrigo has become a destination in itself with a real creative buzz. From museums and galleries to a great craft market, the popular Dorrigo Folk & Bluegrass Festival and numerous events. This delightful country town is reinventing itself.

Armidale and Beyond

And now it’s off to explore the Waterfall Way until you arrive in Armidale. It’s across the border from Arts Mid North Coast but there is much to offer those interested in the arts.

Visit our friends at Arts North West to find out what Armidale has to offer.
