Discover the joy of painting in this relaxed 10-week beginner-friendly class, where you’ll create an artwork inspired by an image you truly love. Bring along a photo, painting, or picture that speaks to you, and we’ll break it down step-by-step—learning how to sketch it up, mix colours, build layers, and add detail as you go.

This class is perfect for absolute beginners as well as those with some experience who want to sharpen their skills. Whether you’ve always wanted to try your hand at painting or you’re keen to build confidence and technique, you’ll get plenty of guidance, demos, and one-on-one support so you can finish the term with a painting you’re proud of.

What will be covered in this course?

Over 10 weeks, you’ll learn how to plan an artwork from idea to finished piece, transfer an image onto canvas, block in main colours, and build up layers for depth and interest. We’ll explore paint application techniques, adding details and highlights, and introduce 3D mediums like gels and modelling paste to create texture. Along the way you’ll pick up practical tips, tricks, and confidence to keep painting long after the course ends.

By the end of this course students will: 
Confident in selecting an appropriate surface for your art, subject matter and how to approach a painting of your choice. Using a variety of techniques and mediums to create depth, intrigue and engaging works of art.

REQUIRED MATERIALS:
A variety of coloured paints 
Acrylic paint brushes in various sizes
A3 canvas pad
Palate or plastic plates
A surface to paint on such as a canvas, canvas board, plywood, mdf, cardboard (These can be sourced later in the course)
