The Gallery’s 'Spirit of Water' group exhibition explores the spiritual connection between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the waters that ebb, flow, and gather across Country. Artists share their personal, communal, and cultural stories, celebrating water as a divine, life-giving force and a powerful, elemental ancestor.

Our Spirit of Water group exhibition also acknowledges water as a raw, primal energy often associated with the feminine aspect of creation. Water is revered as a Great Mother, nurturer of cultural identity, and creative muse. Furthermore, artists humbly invite us to consider the role and responsibility of humans in respecting, caring for, and protecting our precious water sources. They communicate the vital, spiritually animated nature of land and water, emphasizing that water is not a commodity; the spirit of water holds its own language, wisdom, feeling, and lore.

Spirit of Water is not simply an exhibition—it is a tangible prayer by First Nations people to all our sacred waters.
