The Deeper You Go, The Weirder It Gets

A collaborative art exhibition by Brad Collins and Chris Proctor
Exhibition opening event on Thursday 28th November, 5.30pm

Brad and Chris are Port Macquarie based artists, coming together to transform an empty Port Central retail space into an art gallery, exploring the depths of the ocean and the weirdness of life.

While visually exploring coastal and ocean themes, both well known to their coastal town of Guruk / Port Macquarie, “The Deeper You Go, The Weirder It Gets” dives a little deeper into the depths of both artists minds, contemplating themes of connection, identity within a place and identity within your local community.

The longer you stay in one place, the deeper you dive into the local environment, social circles and politics of the place you now call home. Brad and Chris have both lived on the Mid North Coast for around five years and both happened to start taking their art careers more seriously once arriving. Even though this may have happened, no matter where they moved to, the artists are both intrigued by the affects the coastal, regional town and its vibrant art and music community has had on them, externally and internally.

The exhibition will consist of brand new individual and collaborative works from both artists, including painting and sculptural pieces. Throughout the pop up exhibition, the artists plan on hosting workshops and events, such as life drawing, kids workshops and more.

Brad and Chris are excited to put on this pop up exhibition in a highly accessible space like Port Central, as they both strongly believe in the weird world of contemporary art being made readily available to people outside of the major cities.

Both artists are proud to say the exhibition is funded by ArtsMNC’s Country Arts Support Program. Having funding available to support small emerging art exhibitions like this one, is a really important opportunity, that can sometimes be the difference between these shows happening or not.
