The Space In Between is a reflective and collaborative exhibition by Filmmaker-Photographer HASSAN (Dondingalong) and Painter-Poet Liesel Arden (Gladstone), who explore the delicate moments that lie in the quiet pauses of existence.

The exhibition emerges from their personal explorations into themes that reflect the nuance of nature. It captures the delicate shift of first light, the cadence of breath, and the ebb and flow of tides. It is a meditation on how all elements intersect and interact in the cycles of water and energy — examining change, continuity, and the equilibrium of dualities. It is in the calm and quiet moments in nature that they seek to delve deeper into the essence of time and space.

The collection presents a retrospective view of HASSAN and Arden’s artistic journeys, weaving together their diverse bodies of work with a fresh, collaborative exploration. Their works form a contemplative dialogue that invite us to pause and consider the spaces in between, the almost imperceptible moments that offer a portal to a deeper understanding of our connection to the universe.

The Space In Between is a shared journey into the quiet and the profound, a celebration of how art can bridge individual experiences and illuminate the subtleties of our human existence.

The Space In Between is on display in the Nulla Nulla Regional Gallery at The Slim Dusty Centre, Kempsey from 28 April until 21 June 2025.

The opening of this exhibition will take place on Friday 2 May at 4pm. Please register your attendance for catering purposes.
