Artist Malcolm Harding and Luminance Art Gallery director Dominic O’Grady

The Mid North Coast has a new art and cultural attraction in Luminance Art Gallery Port Macquarie.

Launched on 6 March 2025, Luminance Art Gallery exhibits new work by emerging and established local artists. The gallery’s opening exhibition, This World and Another, features 12 vibrant abstract paintings by Port Macquarie artist Malcolm Harding.

The launch attracted 50 people, including artists, art enthusiasts, local businesses and Port Macquarie Hastings Council representatives.

The Programs and Partnerships Manger for Arts Mid North, Skye Petho, gave a short speech at the launch, acknowledging the traditional custodians on Birpai country and introducing the Luminance Art Gallery director, Dr Dominic O’Grady.

“Luminance Art Gallery is the vision of Dominic O’Grady — a dedicated gallery manager, curator, and communications professional whose passion for the arts has shaped a remarkable career,” Ms Petho said.

“Dominic brings a wealth of experience from his work in publishing, media, and advocacy.

“With a Doctorate in Media & Communications from the University of Sydney, Dominic has spent decades crafting stories, supporting artists, and amplifying voices. Now, through Luminance Art Gallery, he is creating a platform to showcase the extraordinary talent of emerging and established artists along the NSW Mid North Coast.

“Tonight, we are privileged to open this space with This World and Another, an evocative collection of paintings by Malcolm Harding. This exhibition is a fitting way to begin our journey—one that will continue to celebrate creativity, connection, and artistic expression in all its forms.”

Luminance Art Gallery is in the Garrison Building, across the forecourt from Glasshouse, at Shop 2, 26 Clarence Street Port Macquarie. Gallery hours and information about upcoming exhibitions is online at www.luminancegallery.com.au
