Traces
This in-ground artwork with a historical theme is in 6 sections of cement fondu and 1 of timber, beginning near Coffs Creek bank and winding across the creek walkway into a group of trees. The works by artist Suzanne Nehl blends with the landscape and capture traces of human activity from the boat keel mark at the water’s edge, past an Aboriginal midden, along a path crossed by native animals to a spot where women and children stopped along the way.
Farmers and timber workers often built a log corduroy to get their drays and bullock teams over the boggy tracks. Modern technology has added much to our lives but leaves still fall on pathways and rain makes puddles where birds and animals drink. Each of us can brush off some of the sand or leaves today and look for traces of the local history and landscapes.
