Local author, artist and business owner J.L. Whitton has released his debut fiction novel The Pendulum. The book is in the literary/crime thriller genre with an eclectic mix of philosophy on the existential, social commentary and historical inspiration behind the plot, themes, characters and settings.

It chronicles the crime, corruption and calamity as a new nation is formed on the Australian continent. Founded as a place to escape the turbulent world it quickly devolves into a dangerous place. Against this backdrop, we meet Ally Rose, a French immigrant and Facilitator (freelance mercenary). After being caught in a conspiracy, Ally and the other characters risk everything to rally against an increasingly hostile government.

The Pendulum was a story many years in the making. It was started back in 2011 when J.L. was a callow high-school student, it took on many different iterations before the version published now. Due to a change of circumstances during the Covid pandemic and after observing recent events in Australia and around the world, he felt compelled to address them by finishing The Pendulum and publishing it.
