Arts Mid North Coast was delighted to celebrate the opening of the Common Thread Exhibition on Thursday, 14 May, with around 24 guests packing into MakeSpace Port Central, Port Macquarie, to cheer on the artists of the Shared Practice Program.
It was a fantastic night, with two representatives from Hastings Council among those who came along, a lovely sign of local support for the region’s creative community.
Common Thread showcased new work by Shared Practice artists Bee Hudson, Brad Collins, Olivia Cotovich, Kellie deWaal, Lucy Juhnke, Anne de Nooijer and Ros Fuhrer, each bringing their own distinct voice and vision to the show.
“It was such a special night. Seeing these artists share their work with the community for the first time was incredibly moving,” said Programs and Partnerships Manager, Skye Petho.
“The Shared Practice Program is all about giving artists the space and support to grow, and Common Thread showed just how much is possible when that happens,” she said.
Running from 13 to 23 May, the exhibition gave visitors the chance to experience the work firsthand, with the artists themselves staffing the gallery throughout, making for some wonderful conversations between makers and the public.
A big thank you to the program’s generous supporters: Creative Australia, Create NSW, Yarrila Arts & Museum, Nulla Nulla Regional Gallery, Glasshouse Regional Gallery, Gowings Pacific Traders and Port Central.
