Gladstone is located 5 kilometres off the Pacific Highway, no more than ten minutes north of Kempsey.  With a fascinating history as a river town Gladstone is on one side of the Macleay River while Smithtown is directly opposite on the other.

The famous Heritage Hotel of Gladstone has gorgeous river views and a great family friendly menu. And don’t miss the famous Gladstone Quality Markets on the 3rd Sunday of every month from 9am to 2pm along the river bank. Brimming with local food, art, craft and locals who are passionate about their wares.

However no matter when you visit you can take the heritage walk, take in an exhibition at the Macleay Valley Community Art Gallery or take a coffee and buy some art at the Gladstone Hub. Another great time to visit is for the annual Sculpture in the Gaol, held at the historic Trial Bay Gaol, a little further on the road to the coast.
