Mid North Coast Creative Places

Woolgoolga

Woolgoolga, a seaside village 25kms north of Coffs Harbour is affectionately known by locals as Woopi. For many years travellers on the Pacific Highway also knew it with the landmark Guru Nanak Sikh Temple on the hill and a distinctive Indian restaurant right on the Highway.

About The Town

Woolgoolga has the largest Sikh population in regional NSW and recently celebrated the opening of the first Australian Sikh Museum in 2019.

As well as its rich Sikh history, the area has a much broader story to tell. This is best found out by following the Woolgoolga Heritage Trail with 16 stations along the 2.2 km walk each with informative historically themed panels.

Add to the mix the Woolgoolga Gallery,  a community-focused library,  the very popular CurryFest event, its Bollywood Markets and a number of local arts groups and it is clear why Woopi is designated one of the Creative Communities of the Mid North Coast.
