Museums are an integral part of our community and cultural life telling stories of places, people and objects. Although our SHINE Breaking News feature has been highlighting stories of major developments with some of our larger museums in the region it is important to note there are nearly 30 smaller, usually community run museums in the region. You will find them in Bellingen – Bowraville – Bulahdelah – Camden Haven – Cundletown – Dorrigo – Gloucester – Kempsey – Macksville – Nabiac – Nambucca Heads – Port Macquarie – South West Rocks – Stroud – Tinonee – Tuncurry – Urunga – Wingham and Woolgoolga. Some towns even have two or more museums.

While most tell the broader stories of their community, others take a specific focus so there are  museums with a focus  on motorcycles, the Sikh community, maritime history, Slim Dusty and Australia’s armed services. There is in fact something for everyone. You can check them all out in our Museums Trail.
